When was the last time you had so much fun? or you were in a state of bliss? or you were re-energized? Probably, you were fulfilling one or more of your life values. Life Values reflect what is important to us and are intrinsic to who we are. Each and everyone of us has our own set of values that we find ourselves honoring or or not throughout any given day. Although a group of people can participate in the same activity, each one will have their own life value that is fulfilled or not.

Take a walk in the woods for instance with four people. All of them are satisfied at the end of the walk except one person. Let's look at each of the values that were honored or not from this walk. Deborah fulfilled her value of connecting to nature, primarily the water she could hear. Her value that was honored was "connecting with nature". Jonah enjoyed hearing and seeing the birds. His value that was honored was "peace". Conrad was energized after the walk and identified his value, "being active". Clovis was unhappy with the outcome of the walk as she wanted a more difficult trail. Her value that was not honored was ,"adventure".

What is the value of knowing our life values? Most of the time we can fulfill our values on our own and if we recognize this we become more capable and able to take care of ourselves. If we recognize we are not happy in a situation we can look at how to honor any values that relate to that situation. We can ask for a change regarding the situation if there other people involved and be clear why we are asking for this change. This applies to work, home, school, traveling, where ever we may be.
